The dam at the Mill Pond is in a bad state of repair and Crawley Borough Council have agreed to upgrade it.

In 2011 more than 500 residents responded to a consultation on the future of the Mill Pond and 89.1 per cent wanted the dam repaired, to maintain the natural area and wildlife and to retain the volume of the water to ensure the workings of the restored Ifield Water Mill.
The dam upgrade and removal of silt will cost around £7.5m.

The Council has worked closely with the Environment Agency to ensure that the final scheme meets with its approval.

It has been necessary to fell trees close to the existing dam but once work is finished and environmental improvements become established the Mill Pond, including the Bewbush Water Gardens, will look very similar to how it did before the work.

The Millhouse closed its doors as a pub for the last time on the very early hours of 2014. The pub wasn't making any money and the owners could no longer run it as a going concern.

A planning application has been made to return the building to residential use, as it was before Ifield West was developed. The plans, which have been approved, are to turn the main building into a 7 bedroom detached residence and also to build 2 further houses with 5 bedrooms each.

The plans can be seen at Millhouse planning application.
